Little Italy Inn of San Diego California Review and Photos

This is a review of Little Italy Inn a European-Style Bed and Breakfast in San Diego.  As the name suggests, the Little Italy Inn is located in the heart of the famed Little Italy section of San Diego, minutes from the Downtown area, Gaslamp Quarter and Balboa Park.

In 1910, San Diego bay was home port a prosperous fishing industry and many of the Italian fishermen lived in the blocks overlooking the water—hence the name of the section of town, Little Italy.  One of the favorite gathering places was a small hotel on the corner of Grape and State Street, now known as the Little Italy Inn.  The small hotel has been renovated and kept up over the years, while keeping its historic charm intact.

The 23 unique rooms have old-world charm with modern conveniences; heat/air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and local calls, voice mail messaging, cable television, in-room safes, and spa robes. Select rooms have spa tubs, kitchenettes and inter-connecting rooms to accommodate multiple traveling groups.

Our room was decorated with a dark red and gold color scheme, a king size memory foam bed, cozy chair, large dresser with a tube TV, ample size closet with fluffy robe, large bathroom with a oversized spa tub with bubble jets.  The amities were ample and there was plenty room to set up toiletries.

Some may be concerned about the freeway noise.  Yes, the location of the Inn is directly next to the busy freeway, however, the white noise of the air-conditioned fan made it comfortable to sleep.  And many rooms do not face the freeway—you can request one.

The value of the Inn is attractive.  Rooms start at $69 (with a shared bathroom) and because the Inn does not offer parking, one saves on the expensive San Diego big hotel parking charges.  Plus, the free Continental Breakfast, which includes pastries, bagels, yogurt, granola, coffee/tea, and juices, allows the traveler to start to the day on a full stomach and full wallet.

The staff was friendly and answered our questions on the best pizza nearby, how and where to park our car and how to access their free internet service.  Inns Website. All costs were paid for by MurrayOnTravel.com.
